Ribbon Valley
430mm x 328mm (including frame)
Acrylic on Canvas Board.
This piece is an abstract interpretation of a ridge in Devil's Canyon, Canaima National Park, Venezuela. The ribbons dance around the negative space of a Tepui and the clouds that formed around it.
A Tepui is a table top mountain, or mesa, and can be found in South America, particularly in Venezuela. The word translates as 'house of the gods' in Pemon - the native language of the indigenous people who inhabit La Gran Sabana.
The painting is one of the first that I have undertaken that attempts to exist between the abstract and the landscape - an exploration that I will delve much deeper into.
